In the predicament of survival, you need to tie different knots and know which kind of knots you should be in under which circumstances. For example, making nets, field emergency weapons, and building shelters all require the use of knots.
Square knot
When using a rope of the same thickness to tie the ends together, use a square knot (Figure 17-1). The square knots pull tighter and tighter, but they are easy to untie. Just grasp the ends of the rope in the knot and pull them apart.
Note: Wet ropes or ropes of different thickness should not be tied together with square knots. It will not be strong.
Grab
With a knot, you can attach a sling to the cable (Figure 17-2). When the sling is subjected to gravity, the grip will firmly hold the sling, but when the force is not applied, the sling can move up and down or left and right on the sling. You can also use this knot when knitting a fishing net.
Roll up
When the rope is tied to a pole, column, or other similar object, a roll-up knot can be used (Figure 17-3). This knot can hit any part of the rope. However, in order to make the knot firm, you must force the rope to stretch and stretch the rope, or loop the rope around the center of the knot.
Two round knots in a circle
When tying one end of a string to a pole, column, or other similar object, you can first loop around the support with a string and then make two half knots (Figure 17-4).
Single knot
A single set of knots (Figure 17-5) has many uses. If you want to make a single ring and the loop does not get smaller when you are pulling, then a single knot is one of the best choices.
Double dead knot
If you want to tie two ropes of different thicknesses, two wet ropes, two tubular nylon ropes, or two belts, use a double dead knot.
