Royal Special Forces Training Manual (Chapter 3, 4)

Additional equipment items

Although in the past, the canvas rucksack filled with bricks ensured that everyone who participated in the selection was carrying the standard weight.

Today's appropriate instruments are also used to more fully understand the candidate's ability to load. Most of the equipment you take in the selection of special airline crews is the standard equipment of the British Army soldier - from ammunition to cooking stoves. However, because the selection of special airline missions is very special, there are some additional items that you should bring in order to help you smoothly handle the entire selection process.

Some items have already been mentioned. The button compass is almost a complement to the conventional weightless positioning tool, but once you lose the conventional compass, this is something you would like to thank. In this respect, it is also a good idea to bring a magnet and a pin. If you use a magnet to click on one end of the needle, the pin actually becomes a compass. The magnetized pin passes through something that can float like a cork, or a few matchsticks, and places it on the water in a non-metallic container. Needles need to be constantly magnetized, but if you lose all other guide tools or instruments, this temporary solution may save you all day long.

Directional orientation can also be used with lights to reach the climbers. These are available at mountaineering or outdoor activity providers. Since these things glow through a chemical reaction process rather than battery energy, you can ensure that you have enough time to see the map and the compass at night. (Some people tie them to their wrists and make sure that the light source is always on, but experienced Special Forces soldiers usually avoid the use of such a high signal as visibility.) Remember to bring a waterproof map box because it is protected during the selection process. The map is obviously your own responsibility.

The next thing is related to the rucksack. Includes a foam pad under the painful strap and a plastic bag that is waterproof for the tool. (Ideal bin bag, there is no mold hole inside.) Remember to bring some materials that can temporarily repair tools - especially strong masking tape and a tube of super glue. Other things on hand include strong rubber bands and always useful Swiss army knives.

In this chapter we describe how to handle orientation, dress and carry items. This will also greatly benefit your participation in the selection. The selection of special airline missions is the main content of the next chapter.
