Gene for oxidative stress in Staphylococcus epidermidis was discovered

According to reports, Staphylococcus epidermidis is an important pathogenic bacteria that causes infections in hospitals. The number of septicemia and chronic prostatitis is increasing. Because Staphylococcus epidermidis can form a biofilm, which enhances the resistance of bacteria to antibiotics and host defense systems, related clinical treatments are very difficult.

Previous studies have shown that in the course of infection, Staphylococcus epidermidis must overcome the killing effect of reactive oxygen species (ROS) produced by the human immune system to successfully colonize and infect. However, little is known about how the bacteria feel and respond to oxidative stress signals.

Under the guidance of Yang Caiguang and Lan Lefu, researchers at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences, doctoral student Liu Xing and others found a transcriptional regulator in Staphylococcus epidermidis that senses oxidative stress signals. . It is reported that this work was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the "100-person plan" of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and the support of the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Light Source.
