Cold water soluble foam

Aloport, Wilmington, Delaware, USA, successfully developed a cold water soluble foam film.
The cold-water-soluble package is made of a film made of polyvinyl alcohol, polyvinylpyrrolidone, and a mixture of the two. The film material is a polymer having a molecular weight of 8000 or more on average and has a film thickness of 2 to 5 μm. This newly invented plastic film contains bubbles and is evenly distributed throughout the film, occupying 80% to 90% of the entire volume of the film, and each bubble smuggling is less than 1/3 of the film thickness. The polyvinyl alcohol mentioned here is a polyvinyl acetate that can hydrolyze 90% of the maximum molecular weight.
Packages made with this film can be quickly dissolved in cold water without using hot water. In the preparation of pesticides, people who use the drug can not be in direct contact with the drug, so as not to endanger the health, with this new package can avoid this danger. In addition, drug users can also obtain the correct amount of treatment without direct contact with the contents of the package. There is no problem that the packaging must be dealt with separately.
The solubility of this polymer in cold water depends on the molecular weight, and the film of low molecular weight (20,000) polymer dissolves in 50°C water for about 30 minutes. The high molecular weight (80000) film requires more than 72 hours.
In order to produce such a film, an aqueous polymer solution having an average molecular weight of not less than 80,000 is first prepared to have a viscosity of 20 to 80 Pa s, and then air or other gas is added to the solution to cause air bubbles to be dispersed therein. In solution. The stirring should be sufficiently vigorous so that the formed bubble diameter is as small as 1/3 or less of the film thickness for casting. The next step was to cast the polymer solution on a 0.25 mm thick unstretched polyester film on a flat glass plate and peel it off.
Membranes made using this new inventive method can be packaged using a variety of conventional plastic packaging manufacturing machines. At the time of heat sealing, the temperature is 120 to 140°C and the pressure is 0.35 to 1.76 kPa. The packaging, before using its contents, must not come in contact with water and therefore it must be overwrapped with a polyethylene film, polypropylene film, moisture-proof cellophane, or moisture-proof kraft paper.
This type of packaging is particularly useful for articles that require use in aqueous solutions or dispersions as well as powdery, irritating, and toxic articles. For example, bleaching powders for laundry, caustic detergents, and anti-caries agents, growth promoters, insecticides, nematicides, and anti-toxic agents are all very good examples. (Liu Jiao)
