Ice climbing notes

Like the vigorous development of rock climbing four years ago, the number of enthusiasts devoted to ice climbing this year has suddenly increased. This has laid a good foundation for the development of the ice-climbing movement in China.

The flourishing development will inevitably bring about hidden dangers of security. Here only some personal suggestions are made:

Suggestions for junior climbers:

If you have almost no ice climbing experience, then the consequences of independent attempts are serious. Unlike primary rock climbing, most routes can be topped up in advance; even the first level ice walls often require pioneers to climb and set up routes, and shedding in ice climbing is dangerous. Therefore, it is recommended that beginners should follow their first few climbs with some experienced climbers and learn the basics (a lot of different operations in climbing ice are different from climbing); then try to climb independently.

Suggestions for senior climbers:

If you want to touch the vertical ice wall, then climb and climb! Only start after you have enough confidence. It may not be easy to find a chance to climb a master, but I believe that domestic masters are still very helpful. As long as they are in touch, most people are willing to help if conditions permit.

Precautions for climbing:

1. The helmet must be worn. Everyone must wear a helmet as long as they walk under the ice wall. And must wear UIAA certification (had happened before the New Year's Day that the climber was injured by breaking the engineering helmet).

2, the crampons must be tight, (I often see the climber in the middle of the route due to the fall of the crampons into the awkward state).

3, the ice pick must be screwed in the end. No matter how tired it is, it can't be stolen. If ice packs interfere with the ice cones, clean them with ice and continue screwing them. (This is very important, half of the ice cone will be very dangerous due to its leverage effect)

4, bring the headlights. (Climbing tends to take longer than expected. Night operation without headlights is dangerous and it is easy to lose equipment.)

5, bring waterproof clothing. (Don't be too athletic in terms of comfort and wear elastic underwear. If you're climbing and you're wet with running water, you'll have a risk of life if you get windy again.)

6. Do not step on the master rope. (Looks like an old topic, but I believe many climbers will step on the rope inadvertently, so be sure to take extra care)

Think first and foremost so that the inadequacies can be added.

In short, safety first, step by step, in order to fully appreciate the fun of ice climbing!
