Why is Jinshen "price is higher than gold"? A piece of furniture is called tens of millions.

Adequate raw materials, not expensive, not even suitable for furniture, why is Jin Sina furniture "price than gold"?

Before 2010, the market trend of Jinsi Nanmu has been relatively stable, and the price and market scale are far less than the “troika” of the traditional Chinese classical furniture market – “yellow purple” (huanghuali, red sandalwood, red rosewood). Because traditional Chinese classical furniture has high requirements on the density and hardness of the materials, the choice of wood has always been dominated by hardwood, while the golden nanmu is a softwood, which used to be rarely used as a material for high-end classical furniture.

However, in the past year or so, Jin Sinan has suddenly become a “black horse” in the traditional Chinese classical furniture market. The price has soared rapidly in a short period of time. Sometimes a piece of furniture is priced at 10 million yuan. Even over 100 million yuan, the price is comparable to gold. The price of raw materials of Jinshen has also risen. As early as the beginning of last year, as long as tens of thousands of tons of Jinsi Nan was demolished, there is now a price of over 10 million yuan.

Why is the price of Jinshen soaring overnight? Is it the “return of value after long-term neglect” in the mouth of merchants and investors, or is it the speculation of capital?

"New" "Golden Nan, the identity is very vague

Located in the southeast corner of Beijing, the Lujiaying Classical Furniture Market is home to thousands of merchants operating classical furniture and is a famous collection of classical furniture in the country. “There were not many Nanmu in the past, especially some high-end boutiques. But since last year, many have been called, there are many Jinsi Nan, and the prices are also very high.” Lu Jiaying’s frequent visitors, classical furniture collectors Wang told reporters.

Nanmu is a unique tree species in China and a national secondary protected plant. "Golden nan" is a genus of "Phoebe bournei". There are about 34 species in China. It is the most valuable among the 22 genera and 324 species of Phoebe in China. It is mainly distributed in Sichuan, Guizhou, Hubei and Hunan, and is the best in Sichuan. Because of the crystallisation in the wood grain, it glows like a "gold wire" under the reflection of strong light, hence the name.

"The so-called Jinshen is actually a customary convention. So far, no matter whether it is national law or botanical research, it has not been accurately defined." Deng Xuesong, deputy secretary general of the traditional furniture committee of China Furniture Association, told reporter.

"Currently, the price difference of Jinnan furniture on the market is particularly large. Some stores can mark tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of dollars, which is more expensive than huanghuali and red sandalwood. But in some smaller businesses, 10,000 yuan can also be used. I bought one," Wang said.

Why is there such a big gap in Jinshen furniture?

Merchants generally said that the key lies in the "crystallization rate", that is, the amount of "gold wire" in the wood. However, according to the reporter's understanding, what proportion of crystallization can be called "Golden Nan", the country does not have relevant standards and regulations. Therefore, the standards of various businesses are basically self-talking, high said 30%, low said that as long as there is crystallization is Jin Sinan.

"The reason why there is no definition is that it does not have much value, because gold wire is only a common name. People in different places have different opinions. It is relatively broad in itself. And after the long time, the wood surface will be darkened and the color will be black. Gray, green, gold wire is not easy to see." Deng Xuesong said.

"Phoebe wood is soft and easy to damage. It is usually made of 'lacquer' or as inner tube of furniture (outside with hardwood such as rosewood, ie 'inlaid' furniture), backboard, partition, etc." Palace Museum Guan Yi, an expert in the restoration of ancient furniture in Qianlong Garden, and the president of Beijing Century Xuan and Chinese Classical Furniture Technology Research Institute, told reporters that “there are some furniture on the central axis of the Forbidden City that do use Nanmu, but in these furniture, Nanmu is completely wrapped up. Therefore, there is no wood grain at all. Therefore, it is not important or meaningful to have "golden wire" or "gold wire" among them."
